Walter Elst (1955, Antwerp, Belgium) is a largely self-taught artist. He studied medicine at
the University of Brussels (Belgium) but soon, after graduating, he devoted himself to the visual arts. His work covers a broad range of subjects rendered in a technically advanced manner, but especially his still life paintings earned him much respect in the Netherlands and Belgium. While clearly influenced by the 17th Century masters, his use of light, composition and colour is unmistakably modern. He does not imitate but gets inspired by his historic colleagues.. Elst's work has appeared at the KunstRai in Amsterdam, HAF in Utrecht, HAF in The Hague, and Afa in Rosmalen. He is exclusively represented by Morren Galleries and his annual solo exhibitions always attract much attention and many visitors.
