Annemiek Groenhout’s still lives all depart from abstraction. A careful balance of line, form and colour leads to ultimately to a balanced still live in which each object shines in its own position. As a contemporary painter, Groenhout works in the age-old tradition of still live painting. However, her works are very intuitive. Her approach of realism is that it is not an exact copy of reality, although anything in her surroundings can form the start of a new work. She starts working on a sketch and then starts to rearrange the objects in the framework of the canvas. Groenhout starts a new art work with an impulse, a feeling of inspiration, which she tries to maintain throughout the work process. This way she incorporates a unique and personal touch in her paintings.
